Since April of 2001, the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police has been distributing law enforcement tests. Established as a service to Kansas law enforcement agencies, the Association distributes entry-level officer, dispatcher, corrections officer and promotional tests, created and provided by Stanard & Associates, helps police and sheriffs departments across the state hire and promote the best officers and dispatchers possible. This program allows law enforcement agencies of all sizes to test both their applicants and incumbents to ensure that they have the basic skills to be successful in training as well as on the job.
The entry-level exam is a skills-based test, testing in the areas of arithmetic, reading, grammar and simple report writing. This exam is a valid, accurate, fair and proven method to assess an applicant's ability to perform the essential functions of the job. The test is currently being used by more than 2,000 agencies across the country, including numerous municipal, county and state agencies in Kansas. View a list of current S&A test users in Kansas.
The KACP and Stanard & Associates offer both first and second line supervisor promotional exams as well as the entry-level tests. These off-the-shelf exams were developed with the assistance of hundreds of chiefs and supervisors from throughout the country. These tests focus on such areas as community policing, police patrol, case law, criminal investigation, case management and supervision. They have proven to be fair and accurate and to emphasize the essential functions of the job.
The National Dispatcher Selection Test (NDST) measures reading comprehension, listening comprehension, problem solving/prioritizing, and multi-tasking. The NDST is based on extensive research and development. It is a reasonably priced exam, which can be used to identify those candidates who possess the basic skills necessary to be quality dispatchers.

Personnel (Employment) Testing During the COVID-19 Crisis - Best Practices (see the link below):

As the testing partner of the association we wanted to share this information with you, and ask that you please forward it to your members via your email list serve. This communication is somewhat time sensitive, as many departments are finding it critical to keep their staffing levels up during the pandemic and traditional in-person/onsite testing methods are not able to be conducted due to shelter in place restrictions and/or departments closing their facilities to the public. Perhaps the most important take away in the above communication is that last week we launched a NEW form of the POST exam (Form E) which is offered exclusively online and allows agencies to provide usernames and password to their candidates via email. With this new form, candidates can take the exam in the comfort of their own home with the tests scored by S&A and results sent to the authorized department contact. This new testing option has been extremely well received by agencies looking for a solution to keep their hiring processes on track. Again, as time permits, if you could forward this email or simply send the link to your members with the subject line: Personnel (Employment) Testing During the COVID-19 Crisis - Best Practices, that would be much appreciated.
Thank you for your assistance. We hope your Chiefs/Members finds this information helpful. We welcome any questions or inquires.
Be safe and stay healthy.
Sincerely,
Mike
